Véronique Serret

Recent highlights include a solo performance of Arvo Part’s Tabula Rasa with the Sydney Symphony, Sydney Festival shows with Mike Patton, leading the orchestra with Gavin Bryars directing his cult work Jesus blood never failed me yet and string quartet performances at MonaFoma with Neil Gaiman and Amanda Palmer.

In 2014, Véronique joined Sydney Dance Company live with J.S Bach’s Partita N.2 in D minor, which she has recorded as her debut album! Previous Sydney Dance Company appearances include Alexander Ekman’s Cacti (2013) and Shared Frequencies (2011). This year she will take up a residency at Campbelltown Arts Centre, commissioning works for electric violin and perform onstage in The Rabbits a new opera by Kate Miller-Heidke at Perth and Melbourne Festivals.

An avid chamber musician, Véronique is a member of contemporary classical group Ensemble Offspring and improvising string quartet The Noise, who will take up a residency at ANU in 2015. She has appeared as a guest with Synergy, Ironwood, Pinchgut, Omega Ensemble, Acacia Quartet and in the Rivendell Recital Series.

Véronique has always loved going electric! From 2010-12 she lived “on the road” touring internationally with harpist Joanna Newsom as both lead violin and backing vocalist. She is a founding member of CODA, co-writing much of the band’s early material and currently has a band with Paris based songstress Inga Liljestrom.

A regular in Sydney’s recording studios, Véronique can be heard on many Australian albums and feature films, often directing the string section. Her film credits include The Black Balloon, Mental, The Turning, The Rocket, Around the Block, Red Obsession and The Little Death. In recent years she has led the orchestra for Giorgio Moroder, Cinematic Orchestra, Megan Washington and Sarah Blasko’s Sydney Opera House shows and led string quartets for Damon Albarn, Bigstar, Missy Higgins and Ed Kuepper.

A passionate educator in all things string, Véronique endeavours to share her wide experiences and love of music with many. She has been an important part of the Australian Chamber Orchestra’s touring national education program, particularly in regional Australia, mentoring, tutoring and giving lessons, workshops and masterclasses everywhere, including School of the Air and disadvantaged Sydney schools through the ACMF program. She also toured for many years with band CODA for Musica Viva Inschools.

Véronique has played with the Australian Chamber Orchestra for many years and was recently appointed Concertmaster of the Darwin Symphony Orchestra. She frequently performs with the Malaysian Philharmonic, Sydney Symphony, Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra and has appeared as guest principal violin with the Tasmanian Symphony.

Véronique performs on a 1900 Leandro Bisiach violin and a custom made 6 string electric violin by luthier Paul Davies.
