In this unique event popular songs from the time of the Great War mingle with stories of Novocastrian soldiers who gave their lives for their country. Thanks to the research of historian Bronwyn Law, the music comes from a collection of sheet music brought home from the war interspersed with stories of Novocastrians who gave their lives for their country.

The colours of Christ Church Cathedral’s organ come to life in this program that includes the music of Bach and Vivaldi, and closes with Liszt’s full-throttle extravaganza in homage to Bach. Along the way, we come near to the end of our journey through Bach’s Art of Fugue.
Composed in 1941 while Messiaen was in a prisoner-of-war camp, the Quartet for the End of Time is a musical expression of hope and mysticism. Evocative music of JS Bach and David Banney set the mood in this concert by Festival Artists-in-Residence, the highly acclaimed Omega Ensemble.
Festival favourite Deborah Humble is one of Australia’s most successful musicians, appearing in opera houses and concert halls throughout the world. Deborah is joined by guitarists Andrew Blanch and Ariel Nurhadi, and pianist Amanda Neale, in a concert centred on the exotic colours and rhythms of Spanish songs.
